Jan Thomas
(Panel Chairperson), Deputy Vice Chancellor (Academic), Murdoch University

Jan Thomas has held the position of Deputy Vice Chancellor Academic at Murdoch University since 2003. Her portfolio has included Indigenous education, academic policy, academic planning, student supports, student services, student liaison and administration, library services, social justice; quality assurance, flexible delivery and staff development. From 2009 Jan’s portfolio also includes both domestic and international recruitment and organisational capability.
Jan’s current funded research interests are women in leadership, student retention, staff beliefs and graduate attributes, along with Indigenous access and success in higher education.
Jan’s background is in Veterinary Science where she taught and researched in the area of Veterinary Pathology. Having been nominated for, and winning numerous university and national awards for her teaching and for equity provision, Jan has also received international recognition for innovative curriculum design in Veterinary Science. In 1999 she was awarded the cross-sectorial Catherine Macauley Award for Leadership and in 2007 was a finalist in the Western Australian Women of Influence Award.
A Fellow of the Australian Institute of Company Directors and a Member of the Australian College of Veterinary Scientists, Jan has also been a Member of the governing Board of MercyCare Ltd since 1999. She is on the Fellowship Standing Committee for the Australian Learning and Teaching Council, is on the Committee of Management for the Australian Universities Community Engagement Alliance and represents Universities Australia on the working party for Elite Athlete programs at universities. Jan has been an honorary auditor for the Australian Universities Quality Agency since 2004 and has chaired several audits for AUQA during that time. |

Martin Carroll
Audit Director, AUQA

Martin has spent most of his professional career in the area of educational quality management. Prior to joining the AUQA, he was the Manager Quality and Internal Auditor in the Office of the Vice-Chancellor at Victoria University of Wellington. His team was responsible for the quality, policy, risk management, academic audit and internal audit frameworks. Martin also chaired the University’s Web Co-ordinating Committee.
Before Victoria University, Martin was the Project Manager (Quality) at Massey University, where he had particular responsibilities for academic audit, quality reviews and student evaluations. While at Massey, Martin was also the Joint Co-ordinator for the successful merger of Massey University and the Palmerston North College of Education.
With a first degree in social policy and social work, Martin’s postgraduate work has been in quality management in service industries. He is currently studying towards a PhD in Management, studying the social process of voluntary disclosure of commercially sensitive information – most notably in the benchmarking context.
Martin has been a National Evaluator for the New Zealand Business Excellence Foundation for the past three years, including serving as a Team Leader in 2000. He has also been accredited as a Facilitator for the Decision Support Centre. Martin’s passions are music, wine, and a sense of humour that has proved essential in helping him get through a round of golf. |

Graeme Dennehy
Chief Operating Officer, Deakin University

Mr Graeme Dennehy is the Chief Operating Officer at Deakin University. This is a position he has held since August 2006.
His responsibilities include the provision of leadership and oversight of the University’s corporate and commercial services including Property Services, Human Resources, Logistics and Information Technology. He also has responsibility for the University Solicitor’s office and the oversight of the University’s controlled entities.
Prior to taking up this role, Graeme was the Executive Director and Vice-President (Business and Administration) with the University of New England, a position he held from October 1997.
His earlier career included working for the Northern Territory University for nine years and prior to that working in the construction industry where he held a number of senior management positions with the Northern Territory Government.
Graeme’s career has included the responsibility for the development of Quality Assurance frameworks. He has also led a division of the Northern Territory University in achieving ISO9001QA Certification.
His experience includes Directorships of the University of New England Foundation, Armidale/Dumareng Economic Development Committee, International Livestock Resources and Information Centre (ILRIC), the National Marine Science Centre (NMSC) (previously he held the position of Company Secretary), the University of New England Foundation (UNEF) and the University Rural Properties.
He is currently a Director on the Boards of a number of University companies including Callista Software Services (Chair), Canopi (Chair), Unilink and PowerDX and is a member of the Committee for Geelong. |

Felicity McGregor
University Librarian, University of Wollongong

With over thirty years experience in universities, including more than a decade as a senior administrative staff member, Ms Felicity McGregor has been University Librarian, University of Wollongong since1997. She has been responsible for the management of change in many areas of the Library, including the introduction of the Library’s Quality and Service Excellence program in 1994. Through her leadership in quality management, the UoW Library became the first library to achieve recognition as a winner of an Australian Business Excellence Award in 2000.
Felicity’s commitment to achieving best practice resulted also in the library’s accreditation as an Investor in People (IiP) in1999. IiP is an international standard for the management and development of human resources. Both IiP and the Australian Business Excellence Award involve a comprehensive submission and evaluation process conducted by expert, external evaluators. Felicity has also been asked to conduct reviews of other organisations.
In 2000 Felicity was personally recognised as the Australian Library and Information Association’s Manager of the Year. She is an elected member of the executive of the Council of Australian University Librarians (CAUL). Professional interests include change management, staff development, quality improvement and business excellence in a non-profit environment. She has published and presented in these areas for many years. Felicity was an elected representative on the Council of the University of Wollongong for many years and serves on key University planning bodies. |

Muhammad Kamil Tadjudin

| Professor Muhammad Kamil TADJUDIN was born in Jakarta in 1937 and graduated from the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia in 1962. At present he is acting Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Syarif Hidayatullah State Islamic University in Jakarta. He was Professor at the Faculty of Medicine Universitas Indonesia and Rector of this University from 1994–1998. Since January 1999, he has been appointed as Chairman of the National Accreditation Board for Higher Education of Indonesia. He is member of several national and international scientific institutions, including the South East Asian Ministers of Education Organization Center for Tropical Medicine and Public Health (SEAMEO-TROPMED) and is founding member of the Indonesian Societies for Andrology, the Study of Fertility, and Human Genetics. He was a member of the International Bioethics Committee of UNESCO (1999–2002). He is also a member of the International Advisory Council of the Scholarship Division of the Tokyo Foundation since 1999, member of the UNESCO Southeast Asia Regional Forum for Higher Education since 2002, and of the National Bioethics Committee of Indonesia since 2004. |
