One of AUQA's objectives is to 'develop partnerships with other quality agencies in relation to matters directly relating to quality assurance and audit, to facilitate efficient cross-border quality assurance processes and the international transfer of knowledge about those processes'.
AUQA activities in fulfilment of this objective include:
- Memoranda of cooperation: AUQA has signed Memoranda of Understanding (MoU) or Cooperation (MoC) with: the Hong Kong Council for Accreditation of Academic and Vocational Qualifications (HKCAAVQ); South Africa's Higher Education Quality Council (HEQC); the New Zealand Universities Academic Audit Unit (NZUAAU), Malaysian Qualifications Agency (MQA), and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC) of India. Other agreements are in progress.
- Facilitation of strong working relationships with higher education quality agencies in other countries through:
- Quality audit processes, e.g. joint audits, advice of AUQA offshore audit visits to the quality agency for the relevant jurisdiction, and the presence of international observers on AUQA audits
- Meetings with representatives of higher education quality agencies in Australia and overseas to discuss matters of common interest
- Quality audit guidelines for cross-border and international education, e.g. TNE quality framework of AUQA and Education of International Students in Australia: Quality Framework of AUQA
- Active participation in international quality assurance networks for higher education, particularly through INQAAHE and the Asia-Pacific Quality Network (AUQA hosted the first Secretariat), as well as through invited addresses and presentations
- Project-based activities, and international consulting and advisory services, including training of auditors and advice on the establishment of higher education quality assurance systems
- Publications on cross-border quality assurance, e.g. Quality Audit and Assurance for Transnational Higher Education, and articles in international media such as the Observatory on Borderless Higher Education
- Collaboration on good practices with the Global University Network for Innovation (GUNI), particularly with reference to the Observatory on Good University Practices.
